Cheap Lucky Strike Cigarettes!
The Lucky Strike brand was introduced in 1871 by R.A. Patterson of Richmond. First, Lucky Strike produced a cut-plug chewing tobacco.
In 1905, R.A. Patterson company was acquired by the American Tobacco Company, and Lucky Strike would later prove to be its answer to R.J. Reynolds' Camel.
The distinctive feature that helped Lucky Strike to stand out against the background of its rivals was an absolutely innovative manufacturing method. The tobacco was not sun-dried, but toasted. In 1917, in order to inform consumers of this new method, Lucky Strike used the slogan "It's Toasted".
In 1942, the green color of the pack was changed to the white one. The change was motivated by the scarcity of copper (used for the green color), since it was needed for World War II. That year their famous advertising slogan appeared - Lucky Strike Green Has Gone to War". Actually, the change was made in order to modernize the label, and to attract female smokers. Lucky Strike became more appealing and patriotic at the same time.
Lucky Strike sponsored radio and television programs in the 1940s and 1950s on CBS. Among its advertising slogans was "Be happy go lucky, be happy, smoke Lucky Strike!"
In 1996, filtered styles were launched, but they were available in the United States only in 1999.
