Pall Mall brand was introduced by Butler & Butler Company in 1899. In 1907 it was sold to American Tobacco. In 1939 Pall Mall launched the first-ever so-called King-Size cig at 85 millimeters. The peak of Pall Malls popularity falls on 1960s, when it was the number one cig brand in America. In 1994 Pall Mall brand came into possession of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation. Only in 1997 new filtered Pall Mall. Till that time it remained filterless. In 2004 Brown &Williamson Company merged with R.J. Reynold's Tobacco Company. In 2007 the packaging color of Pall Mall Ultra Lights - both short and 100s was changed from light blue to orange to stop confusion between the Ultra Lights and the Lights - both having been in blue colored packaging. Nowadays R.J.R. produces Pall Mall for the USA market. British American Tobacco manufactures and sells Pall Mall for the foreign market. The Pall Mall logo represents two regal lions pawing the sides and a knight's helmet on top. There is an inscription inside the shield "Per Aspera Ad Astra", which stands for "Through the Thorns to the Stars". The banner underneath the shield runs, "In Hoc Signo Vinces" or "In This Sign, You Will Conquer".
