Winston brand belongs to R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, founded by Richard Joshua Reynolds in 1875. The brand bears the name of the location where Reynolds started a tobacco manufacturing operation. The city is well known today as Winston-Salem. In spite of the fact that the town of Winston was inhabited only by several hundred people, and had no paved roads, it had several benefits. First of all, it was the production center for tobacco leaf. Secondly, Winston was located in immediate proximity to a newly built railroad line. By the year 1954, J. Winston were the first filtered cigs to achieve major success on the tobacco market. In 1966 Winston cig brand enjoyed great popularity.
